Support for publishing development – Contemporary classical music

Purpose

To accompany publishers with their projects to develop their career within contemporary classical music composers. This does not include books intended to teach new music methods.

Eligibility criteria

  • The publisher must have earned a minimum of €1,500 of royalties within one of the two years prior to submitting their application.
  • In case of co-publishing, financial support for a project can only be designated to one publisher.
  • The application for financial support must be sent by the publisher before the start of the project, or at the latest, 18 months after the first payment, in which case receipts will be required.
  • A request can involve a project with a single composer, or a project with multiple composers.
  • A publisher can submit up to 6 applications per year.
  • The amount of financial support per publisher is capped at €30,000 per year, this does not include any losses in music score rentals as these would be a separate stream of support.
  • The project must meet at least two of the eligibility criteria, this may include projects with multiple composers.
  • This support is compatible with Contemporary Publishing Funds of FCM, and applications for both can be done simultaneously.

 

Types of support

 

 1- Music area and professional networks

  • Composers accessing masterclasses
  • Lectures with music professionals from specific repertoires
  • Financial support for recording music records

2- Creating digital content

  • Websites for composers/projects
  • Creating EPK’s, live recordings and interviews
  • Purchasing software and equipment for the creation of audio-visual content (applications permitted once every 3 years)

3- Promotional resources

  • Press agent, community manager and promotion agency
  • Photographer
  • Creation of promotional materials, such as flyers and catalogues for special events

Amount of funding

For composer development projects that involve multiple support streams (see eligibility criteria): support of €1,000 - €10,000 will be available (limited to 50% of the amount committed by the publisher to the project).

 

The financial commitment of the publisher must be a minimum of €2,000 for the project to qualify for support.

 

Emergency measures – Loss of music score rental services

To complement the current program, Sacem has created a new system to support financial losses from music score rentals within symphonic and contemporary repertoires. This applies for the period 1st March to 31st December 2021. This applies for the period 1st March to 31st December 2021. Two requests may be submitted: the initial for March - July period, and subsequent for August - December period.

To apply for this program, the form for supporting publishing development must be completed and supporting documents will be required (e.g. list of cancelled concerts, detailed budget of losses etc.)

You will need to fill out a request through COAD.

Publishers with losses under €40,000 are eligible for support of up to 40% of their losses, with a maximum amount of €10,000 per request.

Publishers with losses over €40,000 are eligible for support of up to 50% of their losses, with a maximum amount of €20,000 per request.

Requirements for the application

The request must be completed online, by filling out the required form (see template to download). This must be accompanied by the following elements:

  • Forecasted project budget, including quotes if they have been provided
  • Receipts for payments made, if the project has already commenced

 

A recording can be sent to complement your application within 15 days of online submission (please include your application number)

Applications that are incomplete will be refused. The Cultural Division of Sacem has the right to contact you for more information regarding your application if needed.

Evaluation of applications

Following review from the Board of Directors, the Cultural Division of Sacem will examine your files to make a final decision on your application.

This decision is definitive and will be sent to you via post.

It is not possible to resubmit a file that has been submitted and examined by the Cultural Division of Sacem for a previous application.

The outcome of your application will be decided within 2 months of submission. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt upon submission of your application from the Cultural Division of Sacem.

Payment of support

Following the success of your application, the contract needs to be signed prior to receiving support. This contract will include the conditions associated to receiving the support.

The use of the financial aid is dependent on the conditions of the Intellectual Property Code. Sacem will decide on the amount of the financial support granted to the publisher, which is dependent on project expenses. As it will be mentioned in the contract, the publisher will need to provide proof of payments.

It is the responsibility of the applicant submitting documents to ensure that private information is hidden. The absence of proof of payments may prevent the applicant from being able to apply for future support.
